Sokoto state government has said it spent over N3.7billion on various agricultural intervention programmes in the state.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal disclosed this at the opening of a 4-Day workshop themed, ‘local government leadership wealth creation via agribusiness and poverty reduction’, organized for local council officials in the state.
He said the state government was embarking on various interventions to revamp the agricultural sector.
The governor noted the potentials of the sector in reducing the high unemployment rate in the country, curb rural-urban drift and restiveness.
He said efforts were being made to device strategies to improve the economic base of the state in view of the global economic recession.
