An Open Letter to Brymo: The Genius We Love, the Man Who Hurts Us

As one of your most ardent fans, writing this letter is both a labor of love and an expression of heartbreak. Your music has been nothing short of magical. Through your poetic lyrics and soulful delivery, you have transported us to worlds we never thought possible.

Your ability to paint vivid pictures with your words is unmatched, weaving stories that stay with us long after the music fades.

I will never forget the sheer brilliance of your live performances. Witnessing you in your element during “Live at Terra Kulture” in 2019 was a revelation, and your October 1st, 2021, performance at Landmark Beach in Lagos was a memorable farewell for me before I left Nigeria. You were electric, Brymo a true maestro who commanded the stage and captured our hearts.

Brymo Live in Concert, 2021

Yet, since 2021, something has shifted. The man who once dazzled us now leaves us disappointed. Fans have raised countless complaints about your tardiness to shows, your brief performances, and most heartbreakingly, your apparent lack of remorse. You no longer apologize or acknowledge the loyal fans who have stood by you.

Let’s face it, you’re not considered a mainstream A-list artist. Some even label you a “failed musician” because you’ve chosen to stay outside the conventional system. But to us, your fans, you are far from a failure; you are the greatest. Your music moves mountains, and we would do the same for you. Yet lately, this relationship feels toxic, one-sided, and disheartening.

The latest blow came on January 1st, 2025, with the botched livestream of your album Petrichor. The promise of enjoying a Brymo concert from the comfort of our homes was a thrilling way to begin the year. I paid ₦5,000 for the event and waited eagerly for the magic to unfold. But instead, I faced hours of frustration: faulty logins, endless countdowns, and ultimately no concert.

What hurts the most isn’t even the money lost; it’s your silence. Despite the outcry from fans on your page, you have said nothing and done nothing. This silence speaks volumes, and it’s deafening. How can someone who writes so eloquently about humanity and emotion turn a blind eye to the people who cherish his art?

Brymo, we love you, but you are breaking our hearts. It’s time to fix up. Your fans deserve better than this blatant disregard for our loyalty and support. We are not fools, and this pattern of disrespect cannot continue. You owe it to us, not just as fans but as people who believe in your genius, to address these issues and do better.

Your music taught us to expect greatness, and we still believe in your ability to deliver it. But respect and accountability must walk hand in hand with your art. Don’t let us down any further.

With hope and disappointment,
Tosinadeda
