Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to rise up to the challenge of leadership and save the Nigerian nation from collapse. This is contained in a 30-page memo titled IMMEDIATE AND MEDIUM TERM IMPERATIVES FOR PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI which the Governor sent to President Buhari in September 2016 and which was obtained by Sahara Reporters
In the memo dated September 22, 2016, outlined key sectors for urgent reforms El-Rufai, who admitted it was Buhari who convinced him to run for office of Kaduna State Governor, outlined key sectors and areas for reforms by the Presidency, as well as other recommendations including a State of the Union address.
“The President should speak to the nation – something akin to a State of the Union address on December 1 or January 1, preferably in a joint session of the National Assembly during which he will explain away some of the perceptions and lay out the national plans, strategies, and roadmap [contained in this memo].” El-Rufai said in the memo.
According to Sahara Reporters, El-Rufai asked President Buhari to consider communicating actively and directly with the Nigerian public about his vision – the government’s plans, strategy, and roadmap to take the country out of the current, dire economic situation, suggesting a five-year national development strategy and plan urgently.
