Gowon visits Buhari, charges him on Nigeria’s problems

Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon yesterday visited President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he encouraged him ‎to continue to do his work to the best of his ability and in dealing with Nigeria’s problems.

Speaking with State House correspondents after the meeting Gowon said he was at the villa to welcome him back and to see him in reasonable good health and urge him to do whatever he is able to do.

Gowon, who expressed concern over the negative reports that followed Buhari’s medical trip, said: “day in day out you read in the press all sorts of things. God will give him continued strength and energy to deal with the problems of the country for the good of Nigerians.”

He disclosed to newsmen that he expressed appreciation to the President for finding time during his medical vacation in London to call on telephone and commiserate with him over the death of his sister.

“Let me tell you the honest truth, my coming here today is to thank and welcome Mr. President back from his health issues and problems and to thank God for what He has done for him to have his health back, for him to be able to return back to work,” he said.

He added: “the other thing also is to thank him very much indeed for ringing me from London when he was in London to commiserate with me on the death my sister.” The former military leader said it was gracious of the president and that was why he came to felicitate with him on his return and wish him good health.
