Eid-El-Fitr: Gov Gaidam Urges More Prayers, Speaks On Successor

Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam his deputy Engr. Abubakar D. Ali, and the national secretary of the APC Hon. Mai Mala Buni were among thousands of Muslim faithful who observed the Eid prayers marking the end of the Ramadan fast today at the Yobe Mosque and Islamic Centre, Damaturu.

The prayers were led by Ustaz Hudu Muhammad, whose sermon called attention to the growing problem of drug and substance abuse especially among youths and the need for parents, teachers and the rest of society to rise to the problem. Sheikh Hudu also spoke on the need for people who have not registered for the permanent voters’ card and national ID card to do so, saying these are important matters of citizenship and democratic participation.

The Eid prayers today were observed peacefully all across the state.

H.E Governor Gaidam, who spoke to journalists after the prayers, praised Almighty God for the peaceful Eid and urged the people to continue to pray for improved peace and security in the state.

“We thank Almighty Allah for successfully completing the Ramadan fast and the opportunity to observe the Eid prayers today. I believe you have seen the multitudes of people who came out for the prayers.

“This is a sign that we are enjoying relative peace in the state. This is thanks to the prayers and vigilance of our people and the hard work of our gallant security men and women.

“I want to urge our people to continue to pray for peace and for good rains and bumper harvest so that we can consolidate on the progress we have made so far”, the governor said.

H.E Gov. Gaidam also responded to questions from the media about what his thoughts are on who he wants as his successor when his tenure in office ends in May 2019.

“It is not yet time. Time will tell”, he said.

H.E Gov. Gaidam said he is praying seriously about the issue and explained that he is not worried because he is confident that Almighty God will help bring a successor will continue with service to the people from where he stops.”I am not worried. Almighty Allah will give us a very reliable, confident, honest and transparent leader in this state”, he said.
