Chelsea forward Eden Hazard believes Antonio Conte’s side can deal a huge psychological blow to Tottenham’s title hopes on Tuesday night when they face Southampton.
The Blues already won the upper hand when knocking their rivals out of the FA Cup at the semi-final stage on Saturday, with Hazard grabbing the decisive third goal in a 4-2 win at Wembley.
And the 26-year-old believes they hold a significant advantage by playing 24 hours before Spurs, who travel to a rejuvenated Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
‘We lost to Manchester United but you know we have more confidence now,’ Hazard international told Sky Sports News.
‘We won the game against Tottenham in the semi finals. We play before them, and they play on Wednesday, so we can create maybe trouble in the minds of Tottenham players.
‘They are strong, we are strong, it will be a good fight to the end, but at the end I hope Chelsea win the league.
Hazard’s form has been key to his side’s success on the field this season, the winger having scored 14 goals and setting up a further five in the Premier League this season.
Team-mate Cesc Fabregas has insisted the Belgian could be talked about in the same breath as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo if he backed himself to go it alone more often.
And Hazard has revealed the Spaniard is not the only one urging him to show a touch more self-interest in front of goal.
‘He’s not the only one!’ said Hazard when reminded of Fabregas’s comments. ‘A lot of people say I need to be more selfish. But when I’m on the pitch sometimes I prefer to pass the ball.
‘If I can go alone, I will go alone, no worries. But if I pass it’s because the pass is better, it’s simple.
‘But I try game after game, I know it’s good for me to score more goals if I want to reach this level of Messi and Ronaldo, but I’m working on it.’
