Adeleke was injected with substance banned by NAFDAC years ago – LAUTECH CMD

The Chief Medical Director of Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, Wale Lasisi, on Monday told the coroner inquest on the death of Isiaka Adeleke, that one of the drugs administered on the late first civilian governor of Osun State, was Analgin, a drug banned by NAFDAC several years ago.

Giving testimony at the hearing in Osogbo, Professor Lasisi also said other drugs discovered to have been given to the late senator on the morning of his death included four ampules of Diazeparm of 10mg each, one Pentazozim and one ampule of Gentamicin and two ampules of Hydrocortisone.

According to him, his enquiries revealed that the person who administered the drugs was neither a doctor nor a nurse.

He said before the autopsy was conducted, the pathologists called a close aide of the late senator to give a history of his medical condition prior to his death.

“I asked clearly the medical status of the person that administered the injections. I asked, ‘Is the person a doctor?’ but he said no. ‘Is he a nurse’?, he said he didn’t know but the person was a face they were used to,” Mr. Lasisi said.

“Analgin has been outlawed since the days of Dora Akunyili in NAFDAC. So, I don’t know where they got it from. They were given in excess dosage.”

The Osun Deputy Governor, Titi Laoye-Tomori, also testified before the coroner, stating how she observed Mr. Adeleke reluctantly ate rice at a burial ceremony he attended a day before his death.

Meanwhile, the coroner has summoned the pathologist who conducted the autopsy on the late senator and the police to appear before it on Wednesday.
