#TosinadedaREVIEW: Laylow – Soul Survivor ft Buckwylla, Liu T, Erigga & Base1

soul-sorvivor

For those who are conversant with the name Laylow, you would know that he has this thing for putting up Naija artistes on a track, to bring out the best in them. Soul survivor is no exception. On this track he puts up four different artistes on a beat: Buckwylla on the hook, Baseone, Erigga and Liu T all dropping rap verses.

The beat is really cool, the piano sound was just beautiful, together with the drums, made up a dope beat for the artistes to kill, and trust me, they didn’t disappoint.

First thing that got me hooked to this song was the hook, Buckwylla came in with his patua style, his raw vocals nailed it, and the lyrics of the hook is a perfect story line for the song.

Erigga is first up with his verse, and as usual the warri rapper nailed it with his story line kinda rap, delivered in his favorite pidgin English  He talks about the struggles of growing up in warri, how a decent meal is luxury, and how girls start the pu**y kinda hustle from a young age, just to get the good things in life. “Brought up in warri, aka waff , around here headburn, we dey use omo baff, u get mind? ok go kidnap oil staff“. “Girls dey binu, 8 yrs old she dan dey straff, bodey no dey slep house, bobby dan turn slippers, cos her leg na open and close, Shina Peters“. Guess y’all saw the open & close wordplay with Shina peters. My Fav Line: “Person wey naked, no fit chook hand for pocket

Liu T is next up with his verse, unlike base and erigga, liu T isn’t all that hardcore, but he brought his own style on the beat and he did well, story line was all about hustling and making it on the streets. Fav Line: “It’s hard to stay alive, but somehow we still survive

Baseone the yoruba rapper definitely killed the last verse with his yoruba wordplays and metaphors. His intro is like a wake up call for anyone on the streets “Ogbeni ja ara e, ma se weyrey de ibi ti mo wa, ko need ko de ibadan ki o to mo pe Oyo lowa” (More like saying, on the streets you are on your own, nobody is there for you). he goes on to emphasize the fact that he’s from the streets, and how people on the street will make it if given the chance: “Awon hustlers ni go slow, mo le fi emi  mi we, gbe wan si olympics, wan ma la usain bolt“. My Fav Line(s): “I’m a king in the streets, igboro lo demi l’ade yi, shout out si awon temi ni Mushin titi de fadeyi” . .  “Ko ata rodo s’ori bed, cos pepper must rest“.

The song gets 8.5/10 from me
