For weeks there have been a controversy in Kaduna State, Nigeria. The Governor, Nasir El-rufai sacked about 20,000 teachers for failing a primary 4 competency test, and immediately put out a vacancy to recruit new teachers.
There have been several reactions, I’m personally of the opinion that unqualified teachers have no place in the educational system in Nigeria. I have no sympathy whatsoever for the sacked teachers, having them in these positions is tantamount to jeopardizing the lives of kids from a young age, which will later in future affect the country in general.
We all know that the level of education in Nigeria is very poor, hence the need for private schools and sometimes foreign schools by parents.
I’m of the opinion that these sacked teachers can be deployed to do other things that isn’t related to educating children.
Some other people are of the opinion that sacking them is totally unfair and wicked and they have constantly berated the governor for being harsh and insensitive.
The teachers had a protest days ago with one of the placards reading “examination is not the true test of knowledge”. This statement got me confused. They even had the kids whose lives they are ruining, join in the said shameless protest.
The Kaduna State Govt in a bid to vindicate herself and get the public sympathy of people, decided to put out some of the scripts of these teachers for the whole world to see.
Peep these images and be the judge yourself. Do they merit being teachers?
