Arsenal are considering a move for Marcelo Allende – the Chilean starlet who has had three trials at London Colney.
Allende has been described as the ‘next Alexis Sanchez’ and turns 18 on Friday, meaning the Premier League club can offer him a professional contract.
The teenager spent time with Sanchez and his family while in London and trained with the Arsenal first team under Arsene Wenger.
Wenger’s future remains uncertain at the Emirates Stadium, but the Frenchman is still building for the future, and Allende has been lined up as a youngster they hope will blossom into a world class player.
Like Sanchez, Allende started his career as a youth at Chilean club Cobreloa, who have previously produced Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Charles Aranguiz and Eduardo Vargas, who enjoyed success at Hoffenheim, Napoli, Valencia and – to a lesser extent – QPR.
He is now at Deportes Santa Cruz and has featured for Chile’s Under-17s. He was named in his country’s squad for Chile’s squad for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in 2015, scoring twice in four games.
Allende’s latest trial has ended and he is now back in his homeland, awaiting a call. Under FIFA rules, Arsenal had to wait until he turned 18 to hand him a deal.
